Student Government continues to meet remotely to plan for what our annual Peace Block Party will look like this year. It will have a different form, certainly, but still will have many of the features you've come to know and love.
Fannie Lou 10th graders visited the New York offices of WilmerHale, an internationally renowned law firm. Students met with partners and associates of the firm to discuss pathways to legal careers. Students also participated in several workshops designed to help refine their resumes and interviewing skills.
The Night of Resistance is a celebration of immigrant identities. It is a direct response to the negative stereotypes and politicians that paint immigrants as criminals and invaders. We resist this narrative.
FLHFHS has been included in the Christensen Institute's national Canopy Project. The Canopy identifies schools across the United States that are leaders in innovative approaches to student-centered learning. FLHFHS is one of only 9 schools in NYC to be awarded this identification.
More than 160 Fannie Lou students participated in the Summer Youth Employment Program. Our students worked to create new media with Career Clue and Educational Video Center, to care for Concrete Plant Park with Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice, to explore environmental justice issues with Children's Aid to name just a few of the wonderful opportunities.
27 Fannie Lou students successfully completed a 4-week, 2-course program at the NYU Excel Academy. They presented their work at a symposium at the beginning of August and are now engaged with a 2-week SAT preparation course.
