Social Emotional Learning

Social Emotional Learning

Children’s Aid supports youth on their journey towards independence by ensuring their emotional well-being and teaching them the skills and knowledge necessary to function in the adult world.

Mental Health Services

A licensed social worker provides students with confidential individual and family counseling. Through case management and counseling, students receive support to deal with life stressors that impact school and home life.  The social worker collaborates with the school social work staff to identify caseloads and to collaborate around best practices and develop a host of services in the surrounding community.

Youth Development The social work staff provides weekly sessions called Power Groups.  These small groups provide a space for students to discuss topics that are important to them and to build the social emotional competencies.

Youth Leadership Development

We continue to be invested in fostering the leadership of youth in the school through student initiated and student- led events such as “Diversity Day,” the “GEAR UP Conference” and the “Peace Block Party.”  Our staff works closely with the Student Government on all of these activities.
