Dear Parents/Guardians:

The safety and well-being of every child at Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom High School remains our highest priority, and we are committed to keeping our school community safe.  Therefore, I want to inform you that yesterday at dismissal, a former student brought a knife to the front of our school building.  School Safety Agents and NYPD immediately responded, and the school went into a brief soft lockdown until the individual was apprehended and taken into custody.  After NYPD responded to the school building and determined there was no immediate threat, the lockdown was lifted. No students or staff were harmed during this incident.

We assure you that every precaution was taken and will continue to be taken to ensure the safety or our entire school community.  We had school safety task force outside the school today at dismissal to provide safe passage.  Our advisors and counseling staff are available today to speak to students.

 La seguridad y el bienestar de cada niño en Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom High School sigue siendo nuestra más alta prioridad, y estamos comprometidos a mantener nuestra comunidad escolar segura.  Por lo tanto, quiero informarles que ayer a la salida, un ex alumno trajo un cuchillo a la parte delantera de nuestro edificio escolar.  Agentes de Seguridad Escolar y el departamento de policía respondieron inmediatamente, y la escuela entró en un breve cierre suave hasta que el individuo fue detenido y puesto bajo custodia.  Después de que la policía de Nueva York acudiera al edificio y determinara que no había ninguna amenaza inmediata, se levantó el bloqueo. Ningún alumno ni miembro del personal resultó herido durante este incidente.

 Les aseguramos que se han tomado y se seguirán tomando todas las precauciones para garantizar la seguridad de toda nuestra comunidad escolar.  Tendremos un grupo de trabajo de seguridad escolar fuera de la escuela hoy a la salida para proporcionar un paso seguro.  Nuestros consejeros y personal de asesoramiento están disponibles hoy para hablar con los estudiantes.
