Children’s Aid

About the Partnership

For over 20 years, Children’s Aid Community Schools have worked hand in hand with educators to elevate education by combining the best practices of a public school with services tailored to address the complex challenges children face. Community Schools utilize community partnerships to create a dynamic learning environment for the student, as well as an important focal point for the family and surrounding community. This approach successfully sparks a life-long love of education with “hands-on” learning activities, while diminishing real-life hurdles to achievement with comprehensive health services in addition to parental support services.

Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom High School (FLHFHS) is a full-service Community School that provides access to comprehensive health and family wellness. At our Bronx Family Center on Southern Boulevard, Adolescent Health Services include immunizations, well-adolescent examinations, care for acute and chronic illnesses, reproductive health care and family planning, screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections and HIV, health education, counseling and complete physicals for school, sports or working papers. Our Partnership with Helen Keller International Child Sight allows Children's Aid to provide on-site vision screening for every student and free glasses for those who need them.
