College Awareness and Access

Today, more so than ever, The Children’s Aid Society (CAS) believe that higher education is the key to success and securing a future out of poverty. The Children's Aid Society are committed to ensuring that the young people we serve receive the critical supports they need to matriculate, succeed in college and excel later in life.


FLHFHS currently has many successfully executed college admissions/explorations services and activities in place. Our work with Children's Aid Society is aimed at expanding student opportunities.


The Student Success Center (SSC) serves to deepen those existing supports and services by offering the following:


  • College Exploration - College Trips, College & Career Day, Family Information Nights

  • Extended Day College Prep program

  • 1-on-1 College and Financial Aid Advising

  • Scholarship information and financial aid support

  • Job preparation and Career Exploration

  • Tutoring and academic support

  • Social-emotional and life skills building

  • SAT Prep – Math, Critical Reading

  • Youth Leadership Development


The SSC provides drop-in support and services to entire school community

  • The Center is open and staffed, 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday


CollegeSet Scholarship Program

The Children’s Aid Society offers a selective opportunity to open a College Savings Account in 11th and 12th grade through the CollegeSet Scholarship Program. Families can earn up to $1,000 in matched scholarships for college. The application process is open to all eligible 11th and 12th grade students.


Summer College Application Boot Camp:

The 2-week Boot Camp run by Children’s Aid Society staff provides rising Fannie Lou HS seniors with one-on-one college application support, including workshops on writing the personal statement, affording college, choosing best fit schools, and understanding college majors and career choices. Students receive four days of intensive Critical Reading and Math SAT prep by professional SAT prep coaches.
